Chaper 7: Precare
PRECARE
Pigment retention in nano brows is influenced not only by technique, but also by the client’s skin condition, lifestyle, and aftercare behaviour. Even when the procedure is performed correctly, poor pre- or after-care can result in uneven healing, premature fading, or the need for additional touch-ups. Understanding these factors allows artists to educate clients properly and set realistic expectations.
We will first look at Precare Factor. Pre- and after-care directly affect:
-
Skin inflammation
-
Pigment stability
-
Healing speed
Clear instructions and client compliance are essential for optimal results.
Pre-Care Factors That Affect Retention
Pre-care focuses on preparing the skin so it is calm, healthy, and receptive to pigment.
1. Active Skincare Ingredients
Certain skincare ingredients can thin or sensitise the skin, making it more prone to trauma and poor retention.
These include:
-
Retinoids (retinol, tretinoin)
-
Acids (AHA, BHA, glycolic, salicylic)
-
Exfoliating treatments
Clients should discontinue these products in the brow area as advised before treatment.
2. Sun Exposure
Recent sun exposure or sunburn increases skin sensitivity and inflammation.
-
Sun-damaged skin may bleed more easily
-
Inflammation can push pigment out
-
Healing may be uneven
Clients should avoid excessive sun exposure before their appointment.
